The challenge
This was a greenfield project. Five years ago, Angelini had a classical purchasing department operating at local level and using outdated manual processes. “This was a very fragmented scenario. But we started to study and decided we could build a process and be really effective, but we needed a software solution to provide all the content and insight needed. In short, we wanted to build the procurement of the future at Angelini Pharma,” says Vermiglio.
The solution
Vermiglio says that Angelini Pharma opted for a solution that is standardized and tailored to the company’s specific needs. “We wanted to harmonize the flow meeting both procurement and compliance goals while onboarding and satisfying all stakeholders. That includes onboarding suppliers and providing a very user-friendly environment,” says Vermiglio.
So, standardized, but what about tailored? Vermiglio again: “We started with one procurement practice serving the needs of some countries and operations, but we found that this did not perfectly match the needs of others.” Thus, some customization was needed at the local level. “But we still kept in mind the bottom line, which is high-level standardization.”
JAGGAER provided the flexibility to meet these objectives.
“One word to describe JAGGAER? Definitely ‘enabler’,” says Vermiglio. “We are able now to onboard suppliers from all over the world, analyze procurement data at the click of a button, monitor procurement KPIs and provide them to all functions internally and to all suppliers.”
Next steps?
Stefano Vermiglio is proud of what Angelini Pharma has already achieved with the design and rollout of an end-to-end procurement process that has been built up from scratch. A real revolution in purchasing at the company. “All the countries are now [end of 2023] live. There is of course always room for improvement. We’ve just scratched the surface of what is possible.”
