Executive Summary
For more than a century, Radius Recycling has developed robust networks to collect, process, and deliver recycled metals to customers around the world. By 2015, the 100-year-old company’s procurement operations were siloed across regions, marked by varying processes, redundant supplier relationships, and labor-intensive ordering. The company turned to JAGGAER for a centralized, metrics-driven procurement platform. The solution has increased spend under contract and brought new efficiencies, including better compliance reporting and greater usability.

The Challenge: Manual, Inefficient Ordering
Operating from more than 100 facilities across the U.S. and Canada, Radius collects, processes, and transforms millions of tons of ferrous and non-ferrous metals annually. As a natural outgrowth of organizational complexity, the company had developed ad hoc businesses processes. Contracts were scattered, documentation was incomplete, and compliance was difficult to enforce.
“We had a decentralized procurement function with inconsistent processes and a lot of varying documentation of contracts or pricing- if any at all,” said Robyn Leonard, Director of Procurement Program Management, Radius Recycling.
The situation was causing operational inefficiency, increased risk exposure, and missed opportunities for cost savings and supplier consolidation.
Solution: Centralized on Procurement Platform Focusing on Usability and Profitability
Radius decided it needed a solution that would bring all the scattered processes into a unified workflow. The solution also needed to be enhanced by process automation that would save time and money, as well as increase usability and reduce risk.
JAGGAER was selected based on the configurability of its offering, as well as its reputation for industry-specific solutions. With JAGGAER’s contract management software, Radius digitized all its high-value, high-risk agreements, strengthened vendor management by removing inactive vendors, and consolidated spend categories. The company also created a standardized spend taxonomy, aligning sourcing responsibilities and leveraging spend analytics to uncover revenue opportunities they would have otherwise overlooked.
As a final transformation stage, Radius deployed JAGGAER eProcurement across all business units, featuring 200 hosted catalogs and 36 punch-out integrations. User adoption was strong. Employees embraced the self-service model, with many citing something as simple as product images as a game-changer for usability.
Thanks to JAGGAER, our methodology now lets us identify the most impactful projects and focus on cost savings, risk mitigation, and automation improvements – ultimately delivering value back to the company.
