The Company
Hitachi Rail is the rolling stock and railway signaling manufacturing division of Hitachi outside Japan. With revenues of over €7bn and 24,000 employees across more than 50 countries, Hitachi Rail is a trusted partner to the world’s best transport organizations. The company’s reach is global, but the business is local – with success built on developing local talent and investing in people and communities.
The challenge
The remit of the procurement function has expanded greatly over recent years. In the past, procurement was a back-office environment, focused on operational cost efficiencies. Today, procurement is responsible for a much broader range of activities, such as mitigating risk in the supply chain, ensuring greater cybersecurity, ensuring that environmental, social and governance guidelines are adhered to within the supplier base.
The solution
Hitachi Rail has implemented JAGGAER with a view to managing this broad remit. “Within procurement automation is now really focusing on supplier qualification. We need to check through several things, such as financials. Some of this is automated through third-party data feeds, some of the data goes directly to engineering teams. In procurement we aggregate this into one central repository for analysis or setting automatic evaluation criteria for how people in the business procure goods and services,” says Lamont. “I really want to give them the best and easiest buying experience possible.”
