The eCare health project, funded by the European Commission, selects eight proposals for solutions to manage frailty in the elderly

First phase allocation of € 392,000 to the successful bidders

Madrid, 27 January 2022 – The European eCare health project has selected eight proposals for innovative solutions to manage frailty in older people, as a result of a call for tenders launched last summer through the software platform offered by JAGGAER, which is the initial coordinator of the initiative.

The eight selected in this first phase will develop and test their solutions in the four purchasing institutions under real-life conditions: the Consorci Sanitari Integral in Hospitalet and in the City Council of Santander in Spain, the Azienda Sanitaria Locale de Benevento in Italy and the University Hospital of Aachen in Germany.

The successful bidders, all of them SMEs and social health institutions, most of them with Spanish representation, will each receive €392,000 in this first phase of the total €3.9 million allocated to the project.

eCare is 90% funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program and is coordinated by a consortium of eight public and private entities. The objective is to promote the independence and well-being of older people and to reduce the budgetary burden on health services through prevention and integrated management provided by the selected eCare projects.

A call for tenders was launched in July 2021 for which a total of 19 proposals were received, representing 58 participating entities from eight European countries.

    Evaluation and prototype development process

Frailty affects 1 in 4 adults over the age of 85 in Europe. Although longevity is one of the greatest achievements of modern societies, the quality of life of older adults in their later years can be aggravated by frailty and chronic diseases.
