RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. February 26 2019: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, America’s first technological research university, has successfully launched the first comprehensive chemical inventory management system within the United States higher education space, utilizing JAGGAER’s advanced Enterprise Reagent Manager (ERM).

With nearly 600 wet labs involved in the procurement of more than 250,000 chemicals, Rensselaer faced a challenge to strengthen its procurement and life cycle management of chemicals on campus. In addition, the regulatory agencies of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Agency require detailed tracking for certain chemicals in the Rensselaer inventory. Rensselaer formed a cross-campus strategic advisory team that determined that it was critical to evolve to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art digital system.

“Through our review we recognized that managing the inventory of chemicals and the associated safety database manually on spreadsheets was cumbersome and inefficient. Now that we have conducted a digital transformation, all the information necessary for a researcher to place an order is readily available. The implementation of the system was so successful because it was designed from the ground up to simplify inventory acquisition and management, enabling our researchers to focus on their work,” said Ron Moraski, Director of Procurement Services.

JAGGAER’s ERM solution manages the complete chemical life cycle, from sourcing to receipt, tracking and disposal and is in use by nine global pharmaceutical companies. The solution provides Rensselaer with the ability to track all chemicals on-site and properly manage access, meeting compliance and safety requirements. In addition, Integrating JAGGAER’s ERM system provides users with up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and detailed material hazard profiles for reporting.

“JAGGAER has an extensive history of working with both higher education institutions and biopharma and life sciences companies. Our work with Rensselaer straddles both worlds, representing what should be an example for any university with a wet lab and research facilities,” says Robert Bonavito, CEO, JAGGAER.
