Joint implementation of global procurement and digitalization strategy

Continental, one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, will use the source-to-pay suite from JAGGAER, the leading provider of industry solutions in spend management. The software will support the Hanover-based company to implement its global purchasing strategy and at the same time drive forward the digitalization and automation of the company’s processes. The JAGGAER ONE suite will displace legacy ‘siloed’ solutions and harmonize the areas of purchase-to-pay, source-to-contract and business partner management, with the aim of achieving a fully transparent flow of information and data. A multi-stage roll-out is planned, which will initially start in Germany and the USA and then be successively expanded globally.

JAGGAER ONE is characterized in particular by a broad and highly standardized range of functions that already covers many of the automotive supplier’s existing requirements. This not only ensures a fast time-to-value, but also a low implementation risk. In this context, the solution’s multi-ERP capability was especially convincing, as more than 30 ERP systems need to be connected in total. Another key decision criterion was JAGGAER’s future-proof roadmap. This is because, in addition to AI technologies already implemented to check the completeness and accuracy of supplier documents or automated recording of contract data, there are plans to introduce further AI-based tools which, for example, automatically provide the user with recommendations on ways to continuously improve process efficiency and user acceptance at Continental and the suppliers.

Following the launch of the project this year, the introduction of the JAGGAER solutions at Continental will take place over several phases. In the first phase, the company is focusing on the procurement of non-production materials and raw materials and is starting to optimize the source-to-contract process. This covers the overarching areas of supplier management, performance management, sourcing, contract management and reporting. It also includes compliance with ESG criteria and laying the foundations for meeting carbon footprint requirements. In the subsequent project phase, Continental will focus on the procure-to-pay process. Among other things, the aim here is to continue to ensure security of supply for employees worldwide via predefined catalogs and to optimize subsequent processes, such as invoice verification, through automation. In addition to the various countries in which the company is active, the challenge lies in the management of several hundred catalogs.

A further plan is to extend the use of the software to direct purchasing, which will deliver great added value for Continental as this can be achieved with JAGGAER ONE via the same platform.
