ZOLLERN Relies on JAGGAER for “Procurement Simplified”
- Press Release
German metallurgical company with a 300-year tradition transforms its procurement processes with JAGGAER digital technology
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. and VIENNA, Austria – May 7, 2019: ZOLLERN, one of the pioneers in the metals technologies sector, has effected a digital transformation of its procurement processes across the company’s three German plants in Laucherthal, Herbertingen and Brunswick (Braunschweig) with the help of JAGGAER technology.
The project was successfully led and managed by a multi-disciplinary project team drawn from IT and German procurement organizations at these three plants. ZOLLERN cited the multi-lingual functionality, integration of upstream and downstream modules, SAP competence, rapid supplier onboarding and other advantages as the reasons for choosing JAGGAER. The company now plans to roll out the solution to 11 other production plants outside of Germany.
Direct purchasing at ZOLLERN is organized decentrally at Laucherthal, Herbertingen and Brunswick, while indirect requirements are bundled and handled centrally at the company’s corporate headquarters in Laucherthal, Baden-Württemberg. The project team has ensured a smooth implementation of the JAGGAER modules and is now working to ensure broad user acceptance across all departments.
ZOLLERN, has 3,000 employees and reported revenues of € 500 million in 2017, with a tradition of manufacturing excellence stretching back to 1708.
“We are constantly looking for intelligent and innovative solutions that make purchasing processes more effective and efficient,” said Francisco del Castillo, Project Leader, Strategic Procurement for ZOLLERN Drive Technology. “Our approach to procurement is easily summarized: we want to move away from the administrative and towards activities that really add value,” he adds.
The project team at ZOLLERN saw distinct advantages in the JAGGAER platform. The solution is multilingual and important factor for a multinational and export-oriented company. It also enables ZOLLERN to implement a uniform, company-wide purchasing strategy, with global control of materials strategy and consistent implementation of lead buyer concepts by department. JAGGAER provides comprehensive information for procurement decisions – price, development potential, process costs, supplier performance and much more. Moreover, because of the linkages between processes from source to pay, ZOLLERN sees opportunities to achieve new levels of process efficiency.
“This simplifies procurement decision-making and makes purchasing processes more transparent. It was also important for us to find a vendor that has proven SAP competence and a solution that fully integrates with our ERP systems,” added del Castillo.
ZOLLERN has already registered around 500 suppliers on the JAGGAER platform. Together, they represent around 80% of the company’s total demand volume. “We are confident in the speed of onboarding and are already seeing cost savings,” said Stefan Scherzinger, who leads the central procurement team at Laucherthal.
While the current focus is on optimizing the current modules, ZOLLERN is thinking ahead. “We have to face the challenge of ever-increasing volumes of data and how to further automate data processing. Artificial intelligence will play an increasingly important role at our company in future, and not just in purchasing,” concluded Scherzinger.
