Research Triangle, NC, March 26, 2021 – The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has implemented a JAGGAER source-to-pay cloud-based procurement solution. It went live in March 2021 and was executed by a cross-functional team drawn from CSM’s procurement, finance and IT functions, and led by the College’s Executive Director of Procurement and AP, Joe Piccolo, who joined CSM in 2015 following many years in procurement with industrial and real estate concerns.

“Until now we did not have a dedicated procurement solution in place,” Piccolo said. “That meant we did not have procure-to-pay workflow processes or functionality such as the ability to attach electronic documents. Everything was paper-based.” The Covid-19 situation gave further urgency to the requirement to shift from manual processes to a digital procurement platform.

“It has been a pleasure working with CSM. In fact, this was a textbook example of how cross-functional collaboration works, with involvement by Joe’s team together with finance and IT,” said Ron Summerhill, Senior Project Manager, JAGGAER.

In 2020 CSM started the process of looking for a solution that would bring increased efficiency to procurement and accounts payable. The team had initial talks with several well-known vendors and third-party integrators.

“We were very cost-conscious as the project had to be financed from the operations budget,” Piccolo said. “The JAGGAER NOW solution made sense from a value perspective,” he added. “And, critically important, it did so with a single solution, minimizing integration issues.”

The JAGGAER solution is a complete source-to-pay package designed for mid-sized organizations and can be up and running in weeks rather than months. It covers supplier management, RFX and auction sourcing functions and contract management, together with catalog management and standard procure-to-pay functions. In the College of Southern Maryland implementation JAGGAER provided additional functionality for real-time purchase requisition (PR) validation.

“This was important to us. It means we can continue purchasing through PCard, which earns a rebate, but with approvals before rather than after the fact,” Piccolo explained.

CSM contracted with JAGGAER as a member of the E&I Cooperative, the only member-owned, non-profit procurement cooperative focused exclusively on serving the needs of education. The contract will run for five years.
